The Bulls are content with their current state of affairs as it is Letterbag…
Shortly after the NBA trade deadline, I had a casual discussion with a high-ranking Chicago Bulls executive.
Our opinions on the franchise’s future diverged.
For the third consecutive season, the Bulls made no moves at the deadline. They ignored strong evidence that their roster beset by injuries is not close to being competitive and probably never will be.
My beef was that the front staff backed off from a rebuild that the team’s supporters had kindly promised.

“Your supporters,” the executive retorted.
I didn’t get it at first.
I have no admirers. Fans of the Bulls are the main reason people follow me on social media and read me at The Athletic. I perceived the executive as attempting to be ironic. It seemed.I didn’t get it at first.

However, the remark wasn’t intended to minimise anyone. It was spoken in order to highlight the distinction.
The executive was referring to paying consumers, the Bulls supporters. The majority of my “fans” don’t usually make up the crowd that packs United Centre on chilly Chicago winter evenings.
Even though it was brief, that conversation revealed a great deal about the thinking behind the Bulls’ administration.
