The New England Patriots are reportedly considering going with an experienced quarterback while trading the third overall choice in this year’s NFL Draft.

Given that the front office isn’t always 100% in place after the famous Bill Belichick left, it’s unclear what the team’s goals are.

Belichick was replaced as the Patriots’ head coach by Jerod Mayo. Eliot Wolf appears to be in charge of player personnel in the meantime. Following the draft in April, interviews with prospective general manager candidates are scheduled.

The most probable outcome is that New England stays with their third selection in the transaction. Instead, the group searches for the team’s quarterback of the future.

There are a lot of quarterbacks available in this year’s NFL Draft. Caleb Williams of USC will probably be the Chicago Bears’ first choice overall. Drake Maye of North Carolina is now thought of as QB2. At two, he may end up with the Washington Commanders.

That would provide an intriguing scenario for the Patriots. Naturally, the current Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels of LSU would be New England’s best choice. These quarterbacks are regarded as the top three in the draft class.

Trade negotiations have also connected Justin Fields, the quarterback for the Bears, to New England.

Jerod Mayo replaced Belichick as the Patriots’ head coach. Meanwhile, Eliot Wolf seems to be running the player personnel department. Interviews with potential general manager candidates are set to take place after the draft in April.

As odd as the situation is in New England right now, it does appear that former first-round pick Mac Jones will be traded this offseason. He was benched multiple times a season ago and has regressed a great deal since a stellar rookie campaign back in 2021.
