A lot of fans and media are watching what happens at quarterback for the Auburn Tigers as they start spring practice. The running back room is one group on this squad that the Auburn supporters should have complete faith in. One of the greatest running back depths in the SEC is found on the Tigers.
They are really experienced as well. With 189 running yards per game last season, the squad finished fourth in the SEC. With 515 yards, quarterback Payton Thorne was second on the team and was a major contributor to the running offence. Robby Ashford made a five-touchdown contribution, but he left to join South Carolina following the season.
Derrick Nix will take Carnell “Cadillac” Williams’ post as position coach for the team.
After the 2023 season, the Tigers received good news that Jarquez Hunter would be back on the plains for another season. Hunter finished the previous season with 909 yards and seven touchdowns. Due to off-field issues, Hunter started the season suspended and struggled to get back into the lineup.
He did not rush for more than 60 yards until October 21st, when he ran 91 yards in a 28-21 loss to Ole Miss. After that, he ran 100 yards or more in three straight games against Vanderbilt, Arkansas, and Mississippi State. The Tigers won those games. Hunter finished the regular season with 93 yards in the heartbreaking loss to Alabama. Hunter should aim to surpass 1,000 yards.
