Red Sox pitcher Brayan Bello signed a six-year, $55 million agreement this week, and The Boston Globe’s Alex Speier wrote a feature story about him on Friday morning.

Speier described the agreement as “a bit of a landmark” for the Red Sox, as it guaranteed Bello’s contract for the ensuing ten years.

Baseball scouts hardly ever visit the little community where Bello was reared in the Dominican Republic. At the age of 15, he relocated to Santo Domingo in order to pursue his big league goal. There, he met a trainer who would go on to shape him into the pitcher he is today.
