After a terrible season plagued by injuries and a resulting lack of consistency and form, the Dogs won just one of their ten games and finished bottom in 2023.

following agreeing to a two-year contract at the end of 2022, coach Nathan Burke was fired. During press conferences held following games, Burke had criticised the players’ professionalism and level of fitness.

“After watching the Dogs over the past few years, I believe it’s most likely not a personal issue. Creating that bond as a team on the pitch and a little bit more unity among the three lines, in my opinion’, Hyett said
