Ex-Warrington Wolves, Hull KR and Leeds Rhinos boss Tony Smith's next destination - Rugby League News

Warrington Wolves’ Ben Currie has backed former boss Tony Smith to turn things around at Hull—just not on Friday.

The Wolves bid to get off the mark themselves after falling 16-10 at 12-man Catalans on Saturday. They host a Hull side who were hammered 22-0 at home to Hull KR in their Super League opener.

FC saw THREE players banned after that game and also lost captain Danny Houghton, Joe Cator, and Cam Scott to injuries. Ex-England boss Smith has named a squad with a dozen players aged 22 or under and could hand out as many as three debuts.

“I don’t know the full situation there, but I’d have confidence in him to turn them around. I know the style he likes to play is really enjoyable to watch, so if I were a Hull fan, I would have faith in him. Just not this week. I really enjoyed my time with Tony and what he did for Warrington Wolves, how he turned us around, was fantastic.

He added: “Over the years, I’ve played in plenty of these games where either you were missing loads of players or the opponents were. But the lesson I’ve been taught is that you need to treat every game the same. Whoever they put out there, they’ll be coming to win, trying to play well, and trying to impress Tony.

And the World Cup finalist reckons Sam Burgess’ squad flexing their muscles with NRL champions Penrith is perfect prep’ to set up that maiden Super League win….
