Known for his famed call, Bowen has been on the mic for more than 3,000 Maple Leafs contests. With a superbly descriptive radio voice, Bowen can be heard calling play-by-play during the
underrated 1986 hockey film “Youngblood,” starring Rob Lowe and the late Patrick Swayze. In 2018, Bowen was honored with the presented by the Hockey Hall of Fame to recognize the sport’s top broadcasters.
Right up there with Major League Baseball, the NHL — and hockey fans, in general — tend to revere their team’s broadcasters. Whether those calling the play-by-play action or providing insightful color commentary, the best of the best are beloved within the game — and the really good ones are usually internationally renowned.
