Action News 4 in Pittsburgh reported that Andy Russell, a former linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers who won two Super Bowls with the team, passed away on Thursday night at the age of 82.
In the sixteenth round of the 1963 NFL Draft, the Steelers selected Missourian Russell. Russell had a strong debut year before missing 1964 and 1965 due to military duty. He rejoined the squad in 1966.
Russell became an indispensable part of the Steelers’ defence after his comeback. Over the course of his 11-year career, the linebacker appeared in all 14 games and was selected to seven Pro Bowls. Russell retired from the NFL after winning two Super Bowls with Pittsburgh in 1975 and 1976.
